  just from a purely selfish standpoint, i would be grateful if the 500 pound passenger next to me were able to occupy 2 seats, rather than being wedged into 1 (and spilling over the sides)..

  A person that is morbidly obese is prone to many health problems. They will have to pay more co-pays/deductibles, etc. to receive the extra care they need under insurance. So, if they require two seats on an airplane, they should pay for two seats.

  The space allowed for passengers has shrunk over the past years, yet people are getting larger. I tend to be a bit claustaphobic and the idea of someone who needs more than one seat "sharing" part of mine is very uncomfortable.

  Obesity is not a moral issue. There are multiple factors involved, some beyond the control of the ones who suffer from obesity. Still, it is only fair and kind for them to pay for two seats if they are using two seats.

  Probably for different reasons. The ones that love to keep the discussion (argument) going and return again and again, I think they like the attention they receive.

  the witnesses and christians would say it was the story of christ.

  all religions i'm sure would point to their specific redemption story.

  for me, i'd have to go with indiana jones, star wars or lord of the rings: so much excitement, villans, heros, a lil magik.

  The Hobbit is coming out as a movie soon. Lord of the Rings is a great read. Liked the books better than the movies, though.

  in proverbs 4:18 as you know all, says that the path of the righteous ones would get brighter and brighter.

  what does the brighter and brighter exactly mean?

  That's a really good illustration, oompa. So, according to that, the person would not see change backwards to an earlier understanding of what he was seeing. The house would not be seen as red and the green and then red again.

  Yet, the jws do exactly that, such as, the people of Sodom/Gomorrah will be/ will not be/ will be/ will not be resurrected. If the society would just leave things alone that they have no clue about or at least admit when they are wrong.

  Not gonna happen.

  How Life Can Change

  i don't come by here very often any more (trying to wean myself away from this board in anticipation of when we cannot ever post any more.

  in the last couple of years, and leaving this mess in jesus' hands, things have not only begun to emerge as "fixable", but have most definetely been fixed at long last.

  i was invited to the youngest grandchild's (of this son) sweet 16 birthday party last summer and i teared up when i realized that this was the first birthday party of all three of these grandchildren that i had attended.. we have been invited to thanksgiving dinner ( for the fourth year) with our whole family and that of my dil's family (she is one of seven) and to spend a few days at christmas at another son's home.

  Your reconnection goes to show the real reason the watchtower denies holidays to their followers-to isolate them, especially from their "worldly" family. Don't want them to find out what you have, those "worldly" people can be really loving and kind.

  Deceptive or just wrong?

  i have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.

  in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.

  however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

  It is quite fraudulent to tell generation after generation to put their lives on hold because the world, as we know it, is ending. People have been talked into giving up education, having children, planning for retirement, etc. because of their failed prophecies.

  What they gained was power over people, monetary donations and an increase in membership because people were told they had little time to save themselves from destruction by God.

  They are accountable for claiming to interpret the Bible for millions of people. They took away the right that each person has to make those decisions for themselves. Even when people choose to leave, they continue to harm them by interfering with normal family relationships.

  They are actually worse than just false prophets because even when they are proven wrong, they blame their members and hold them hostage.

  i think she was put up to it by my mother, but perhaps not.

  she had some major back surgery- and although she has been extremely critical of me fading from the witnesses, i called her and left a message the other day to say my wife and i were thinking of her and wished her a speedy recovery.

  she was pleasant, authentic, and genuinely happy that i was showing concern for her !

  One of a cult's tactics is to keep people so busy that they have little time for anything else. Now that your sister has been forced to slow down, she has time to really think about things. The authentic personality can start to show itself again.

  People with chronic health issues are forced to slow down and are quickly not the center of attention in the dub world. The dubs have little use for weakness, be it physical, mental or spiritual. That is a rude awakening.

  It is easy to worship a God you think is always there for you. It becomes more difficult when he allows you to suffer chronic illness, pain, etc. The gut reaction is to rethink everything about the permission of evil and suffering. The fairy tales are much easier to swallow when you are not the one suffering.

  Sorry your sister is suffering and dealing with a sick relative, but hoping that it forces her to rethink the whole scheme of things and return to her real self.

  There is a huge difference in refusing a heart transplant after years of suffering and refusing a blood transfusion because it is what a child wants after years of suffering. It is not suicide to refuse an operation that incurs more suffering and lifelong treatment for rejection. Maybe the child has just plain had enough.

  Thanks, Barb. so many witnesses have told me that the story of Russell's life does not matter, but it does matter a lot. This is the one single person who they say God chose to start their "true religion".

  Surely, God would have made a better choice.
